Sammy’s Cafe in downtown Provo has been one of my favorite restaurants to visit over the past few months, and there is more than one reason why.
Click here for a food menu, and here for a list of their drinks and famous pie shakes.
The Sammy’s Masterpiece and the South of the Border are both great burgers. The traditional fries and the sweet potatoe fries are also pretty great, although I’m a fan of the sweet potato… what can I say? I like a little variety every now and then.
The best cup shake I’ve had (and I’ve tried quite a few) is the Banana Cream Pie Shake. I also really liked the Carrot Cupshake (which has a cupcake instead of a pice of pie blended in). The Chocolate Cream Oreo Pie Shake and the Pumpkin Pie Shake were also pretty good… althouth the pumpkin is seasonal, I believe.
The only downside to Sammy’s is that it can get a little overcrowded from time to time, and if you plan to get a burger, shake and fries, plan to spend over $10. (That’s a little pricey for a burger meal in my book.)
Sammy’s is located at 27 N. 100 W. in Provo (right off of Center Street).

I’ve been to Sammy’s once and the sweet potato fries were good, but other than that, my date and I thought the other food we ordered was not as good as we thought it would be. Also, the two girl workers were obnoxious and for some reason brought out a clear cup filled with hamburger grease that came off their grill and kept trying to convince the guys next to us to drink it. Classy place… not really.
sammys=unsanitary.
i will never eat there again.

love the fries and shakes, and Promo burger is my favorite (bacon cheeseburger). Definitely don’t go in there unless you’re ready for some energy, since it’s a date-night hot spot. Typically the only people I’ve seen in there NOT having a good time are people who just didn’t know what to expect, and would enjoy sitting at Starbucks by themselves much more.
I highly recommend it!
Sammy’s is so good! I love their burgers, fries and of course their pie shakes. It’s probably Provo’s best known secret and it’s a cool place to hang out since it’s open late unlike any other place in Provo. Everyone that works there is so friendly and makes it fun to be there. It’s always a party at Sammy’s!
I don’t know Brit, best hamburger grease I’ve had in Provo. What kind of grease are you eating?
My husband and I loved it!! If you have one of those randmon cravings their shakes hit the spot, sooo good!!!
Sammy’s is awesome. Their sweet potato fries are killer and my girlfriend Britney is all about their mint oreo pieshake. We love this place cause its open late, it draws a happenin crowd, and the staff is the best. They’re super fun and friendly and sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name. Like Cheers. Except without Rhea Perlman.
Sammy’s is a great environment for college students and families. They have such a warm, friendly atmosphere that if you are a first time customer you feel like you’ve been a hundred times. The girls that work there go out of their way to learn your name and try to strike up conversation. They are also speedy in their service. Great Place!!!
This place was very tasty. Shakes and fries are delicious. Best part is the atmosphere, friendly workers and a fun place to spend 30 minutes.
The girls their have a ton of energy and thats what makes the Sammy’s Cafe so appealing. When you go to a burger joint it’s always so bland and dull. They do a great job at the entertainment! Sammy’s is a relaxing atmosphere and acompanys people of all ages.
I have to say that the food there is really good and filling. The burgers are as good as you’d find at a 5 star restaurant and the shakes are just to die for.
Sammy’s and all employees keep up the great work!
I love Sammy’s! I wish I still lived in Provo so I could eat that deliciousness every day. The workers there were also super-helpful and professional.. As far as Brit’s comment goes, I’ve worked in the food industry before and sometimes you have to go to extreme measures to get rid of obnoxious male customers. (Thank you Provo).
I love Sammy’s and uh, Nate I want to be invited next time
Jenni, bringing out a cup of grease for all customers to see is the most unprofessional thing I’ve ever seen in a restaurant. I don’t think they were trying to get rid of them since the girls gave them their numbers afterwards.
Samantha, Starbucks is full of a lot more intellecutally social people than the ones seen at Sammy’s.
To be specific about the food, the quesidilla I ordered was dry and the guacamole was gross. When they brought it out, they totally forgot about my date’s order. So we had to wait for quite awhile for his hamburger to come out. Maybe it was just an off night, but it was enough for me to never want to go back again.
Sammys rocks!!!!! its the only place open late and its a total riot! me and my friends go there at one in the morning and everyone is so upbeat. its pretty sweet.
LOVE Sammy’s! Ran into it a year ago or so on the recommendation of a friend. I was looking for a hole in the wall-style hometown cafe. It was PACKED. A couple things to look for at Sammy’s: 1. Sloppy burgers with tons of toppings. 2. Pie shakes (you choose a slice of pie, they blend it into your shake). 3. Lots of people. Seriously Friday and Saturday nights are insane, so expect to wait in a line. It’s worth it though! And keep in mind this isn’t a dollar menu. For a full meal with a shake expect to pay just over $10 per person.
sammy’s is a happinin place, and if you’re not happenin, then that must be the reason why the two of you didn’t work out.
ps. BOMB food. love it.
Love love Sammys. It is a must-have everytime I’m in Provo. The sweet potato fries are the best ever – not to mention the Italian sodas and pie shakes. I get a quesadilla almost everytime I go and it’s never been dry – only mm mmmmmm yummy.
The girls that work there are hilarious. And super hot. So if you’re easily-threatened and a little boring, maybe you should just stick with Starbucks.
Ty, the place wasn’t packed. Only 4-5 other people were there, so that was no excuse for the poor service. I’m not trying to be uptight. I’m just trying to give my honest opinion and experience of the restaurant on this review site.
I eat at Sammy’s everytime I’m in Provo and I’ve never been disappointed. I love their hamburgers – there are so many kinds to choose from! Try the banana cream pie shake <– my favorite
Definitely worth the wait in line. *Side note: the staff has been friendly :and hilarious: every time I've gone there.
Brit might not be trying to be uptight, buuut her attitude might have something to do with why she didn't enjoy herself at Sammy's. Just a thought!
I have worked in the food industry for years and Brit I don’t think you saw the whole picture. No one would offer grease to someone they were flirting with! My guess is they were giving them something free. I got idiots who thought they were hot stuff asking me for free stuff all the time. It gets old and annoying. Maybe you were already miffed by the order issue and feeling ignored.
PS- Pie Shakes= HEAVEN!!
